FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY

Introduction
The Faculty of Technology was established in 1978 with Professor B. W. Young as its founding Dean. Its main objective was to train and produce engineers with required qualities and capabilities to meet the increasing need for professional engineers in the country. The faculty consists of four departments, namely, departments of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Agricultural Engineering. In the year under review, the electrical department moved into its ultra modern building comprising 16 staff offices, six classrooms and five laboratories/Workshops donated to the University by the Niger State government.
Academic Activities
The faculty runs the following undergraduate programmes: B. Eng Agricultural, B. Eng Electrical, B..En~ Comp~ter, B. Eng Mechanical and B. Eng Irrigation Engineering courses. Undergraduate students also undertake Students Industrial Working Experience (SIWES) as part of their training, in addition to the innovative Student Work Experience Programme (SWEP) done at the end of level two, for eight weeks, aimed at introducing students into a prototype working environment, conducted within the faculty's workshops and
laboratories. The postgraduate programmes include: M. Eng Civil Engineering, M. Eng Electrical Engineering, M. Eng Energy Engineering, M. Eng Production Engineering, M. Eng Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, M. Eng Mechanical Engineering. Ph D programmes are available in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Production Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In addition some departments also run postgraduate diplomas, namely Postgraduate diploma in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Staff Matters
Three staff were employed as assistant lecturers in the department of electrical engineering while three members of mechanical engineering were promoted to lecturer I. Over ten staff of the faculty are pursuing M. Sc and Ph D courses in Nigerian Universities and abroad (United kingdom and Malaysia). In addition, several staff members attended various conferences and workshops within and outside the country. Three technical staff are currently undergoing training.
Research and Publications
Several staff members of the faculty are conducting researches in their respective areas of specialization such as: Development and Performance analysis of a groundnut shell reinforced Plastic Composite Roofing Sheet;
Determining of Operational Parameters of Diesel Engine using Jatropha oil; Development of a Prototype of Laser Glazing Machine; Development of Animal Feed Mill; Modelling and Simulation of Induction Motor with Saturable Leakage Reactions amongst others. The faculty published two issues of the Journal of
Engineering and Technology. Several staff were also published in their relevant journals, including "Design and Implementation of a Phase-Lead compensation for Magnetic Lavation" Global Journal ofEnginnering and Technology, Vol 2 No 13-48. Dahiru Sani, Dr Sanusi Sani Adamu (2009); Reliability Assessment of Egbin Thermal Power Station Analytical Approach by Dr BA Gonoh 2009 Journal ofEngineering and Technology, Vol 3 No 2.
